success stories

Here at elior, we have a reputation for being big supporters of small businesses. with this in mind, over the past year, we have found a new and exciting way to scout out those suppliers who may have been under our radar.

We have been holding dragon's den-style half-day 'forums' where suppliers can come and pitch their products to the Elior team. This involves suppliers giving a 20 minute pitch, followed by a Q&A in true dragon-den style and give suppliers a chance to demonstrate their products and what they can bring to the table.

This new concept has been well-received and has provided a lot of benefits. By creating this simpler way for us to find new suppliers, stakeholders from across the company can see their options first hand. This means they are freer to choose which suppliers suit their clients needs. This unique scheme has also created a buzz within the business, with the forums taking a different shape and location each time.

Thanks to this initiative, our sites have some new, innovative products which are really hitting the spot with customers.

Yushoi Rice Snacks Story

Here at Calbee, when we started our journey we had a green pea and a vision – we set out to create a savoury snack that would be better for you and deliver uncompromising taste.

Yushoi Snapea Rice Sticks are baked, free from nuts and dairy, suitable for vegetarians and vegans, high in protein and fibre and have no artificial colours, flavourings or MSG….And there are less than 99 calories per bag or per serving! Incredible but true.

Your thoughts on The Big Idea

We sent samples to Elior and were quickly contacted and asked to attend the Big Idea, which all sounded very exciting, similar to a Dragon’s den style event; allowing us to present Yushoi to key decision makers, all in one room, from across the business.

I must admit it was a little nerve racking at first but we were quickly put at ease by the warm and friendly welcome. The day lived up to all expectations with a fantastic number of delegates & we presented & discussed our product with a captive audience. This was quickly followed up with a decision to list Yushoi, which in turn lead to a nomination of our product into Bidvest, an amazing result for us!

Has the process been successful for you?

Yushoi is now distributed across many sites and we are actively growing sales through sampling and promotions. In March 2016 we attended a first ever ‘Supplier Village’ at Elior’s annual roadshow. This gave us the opportunity to engage and interact with over 600 delegates from across each sector of the Elior business. This was a thoroughly enjoyable and worthwhile event helping to drive further awareness of our brand across the business

Has it been a good experience?

This has been a great experience from start to finish especially the speed with which things can happen; Elior being one of the first companies to list our product. Elior are a truly friendly, approachable, innovative and highly professional organisation. Calbee UK base their relationships on openness, trust and respect and from my experience Elior do the same.

What have the benefits been to your business?

The credibility that our company and brand has received through as association with such a key player and respected operator in the food service sector. Increased brand awareness with over 650 sites and a large customer base across many sectors. A real opportunity to grow sales and develop a long-term mutually beneficial commercial relationship, where we both place innovation and customer experience at the very heart of our businesses.
