Here at elior, we have a reputation for being big supporters of small businesses. with this in mind, over the past year, we have found a new and exciting way to scout out those suppliers who may have been under our radar.
We have been holding dragon's den-style half-day 'forums' where suppliers can come and pitch their products to the Elior team. This involves suppliers giving a 20 minute pitch, followed by a Q&A in true dragon-den style and give suppliers a chance to demonstrate their products and what they can bring to the table.
This new concept has been well-received and has provided a lot of benefits. By creating this simpler way for us to find new suppliers, stakeholders from across the company can see their options first hand. This means they are freer to choose which suppliers suit their clients needs. This unique scheme has also created a buzz within the business, with the forums taking a different shape and location each time.
Thanks to this initiative, our sites have some new, innovative products which are really hitting the spot with customers.
This is a story about a Lancashire beekeeper, honey and a refreshing idea to save the bees. Founded in 2013 by friends Joe and Andy, Just Bee started with a conversation in Joe’s dad’s garden in which the family bees buzzed away in their hives. Honey has a long running history in Joe’s family, as his grandad was a beekeeper too!
Overall, Elior’s ‘The Big Idea’, has given Just Bee a great opportunity to access and work with one of the largest foodservices businesses in the UK. There aren’t many other large organisations that run similar competitions so it has been fantastic for us to be involved with The Big Idea.
The process has been very successful for us and has given us plenty of opportunities and opened many doors to large foodservice sites which we just wouldn’t have been able to access without the help and support of The Big Idea Team.
The experience has been very useful and also lots of fun along the way too! From presenting to The Big Idea team at Elior’s head office, to attending Elior’s national roadshow event to meeting and visiting individual site managers to help launch our drinks in their restaurants the whole experience has been great.
There have been lots of benefits of being involved in The Big Idea. We have had the opportunity to experience and see first-hand how a major foodservice business works as well as giving us the opportunity to sell our drinks in some major sites across the UK!
